Wyatt's Birthday Bash

My poor middle child Wyatt never seems to get a birthday party. When he turned five it was the day after we blessed Shelby at church and I was so preoccupied with her blessing and luncheon that I forgot to plan a celebration for Wyatt. Wyatt refused to think he was 5 years old because he had not had a party yet. So finally in February I had a surprise birthday party for him on a Monday at our house so he could officially be 5. Things have not been too good for him in the birthday party arena since then. We did have one fun family bowling birthday bash in Provo, and one year he had a cool letterboxing party but for the last few years he has not had a birthday party - so I wanted to have a big birthday bash for Wyatt, even if it was two months after his birthday! We invited 20+ boys and girls from Lowell to go on an Amazing Race around Alamitos Heights. The evening started with pizza and soda at our house. I began to get worried. Our house was full of too many boys in flannel shirts amped on soda before the race even started. The race went fairly well and the biggest complaints came from the Detour at the Ornelas house where the teams had to eat a pickled egg or a pepperoncinni. The team pictured at the top won the race and the ITunes prize cards. All the kids seemed to have a lot of fun. I was so busy with the race and trying to control the chaos after the race that I did not get many pictures. The kids got really wild after the race. There was a lot of 80's music blasting in the back yard. There were attempts to play spin the bottle and truth and dare right in front of Kevin and I. I was counting the minutes until 9:30 when the parents would arrive to pick up the party-goers. Wyatt was happy and had fun. Even though things got rather crazy he said everyone would be talking about the party at school and he thought that was a good thing!
Happy Belated Birthday to my handsome boy!
