All summer Shelby has been dreaming of a picnic party on the Penisula and Friday night Jeannine made all her dreams come true! We spent the afternoon and evening on the sand and in the water and ate some pizza for dinner. Jeannine even brought glow sticks so the party didn't end when the sun went down! We sure love the Long Beach Penisula!

It's hard to leave a home. We have spent 11 1/2 years living on Panama and have made so many memories in this home! I'm actually sick to my stomache about leaving the place where my children lived their childhoods. The place where we have had the best neighbors ever! I thought I'd take some posts to document our lives on Panama Avenue. I am sure going to miss it!

Don't turn around in his driveway! We will miss Bob and his neat and tidy driveway and his whistling in the garage. Shelby actually struck up a friendship with Bob this last year. I think he actually admired the kids for how hard they worked at perfecting tether ball, handball and soccer in the front yard.

Panama Was Alive with the Sound of Music

One of my favorite things about life on Panama was listening to Wyatt play the piano while I did household tasks like make dinner and wash dishes. Chores were enjoyable when accompanied by beautiful music. We got this piano for Wyatt on his 8th birthday and he has been playing beautiful music on it ever since. Wyatt would often be distracted by the piano when getting ready for school in the morning and start playing songs instead of brushing his teeth, etc. but I could never get mad at him for being distracted when the result was listening to him play the piano. I'm really going to miss the piano room and my handsome blonde boy tickling the ivories! I had to choke back the tears today when someone came and bought Wyatt's piano. I sure am going to miss 381 Panama and my little boys sitting at the piano playing beautiful music.

Panama Girls

Shelby has been so lucky to have a bunch of girls her age to play with while we have lived on Panama. The Panama girls have really started to have a great time playing together the last year, now that they are old enough to wander between houses on their own. Sydney, Charlotte, and Quinn have been great buddies and we are really going to miss having them doors away!

Shelby has spent so much time at the Scotts and Echlins the last few years - she is so sad to move away from her buddies and their trampolines and fun toys! We love the Panama Girls!

Kelly's Pitch

I think Kelly's best friend on Panama has been the patch of grass that was our front lawn. The past few years he has spent about 1 hour each day shooting on his soccer goal and juggling soccer balls on the front lawn. When Kelly was little he spent hours playing catch on the lawn with Kevin. We also loved watching 4 year old Kelly perform his karate shows on the front lawn. In first grade he moved on to tether ball, and the grass never recovered from the wear and tear. Every summer it was the slip and slide with friends. In middle school I think Kelly's front lawn was toilet papered at least once a month. The front lawn was also perfect for birthday parties with Coach Kyle and bounce houses. I know Kelly is really going to miss his pitch, and I'll really miss watching him playing on the front lawn of 381 Panama.

StudIronman 2011

Wyatt was ready early Tuesday morning for his 4th running of a Long Beach tradition - the 4 mile run and 2 mile swim StudIronman. He had special permission from his waterpolo coach to run the race since his final game for JOs was that afternoon. Wyatt is a stud and isn't going to use a Junior Olympic game as an excuse to get out of an endurance race!

He rocked the race and ran a fast pace the entire time and finished with a time of 1 hour 30 minutes! What a stud! I'm so proud of my little stud ironman! I see triathlons in his future.

Moving!

Moving was the worst way to celebrate my 40th Birthday. In fact, it is ruining my whole summer which is my favorite season. It sure makes me wish my family was closer so we could get some help. Luckily Kevin's buddies Drew and Gustavo were willing to drip sweat from 10am to 6pm hauling our possessions from one house to the other. Now we are semi-homeless since our new home is not currently habitable. Like I said, worst birthday ever. I'm going to need to have a German Chocolate cake and a Just Dance party to celebrate once we get settled.

Junior Guard Regionals

Moore League Champions

The Freshman Bruins were crowned Moore League Champions Monday after a stellar 28-1-1 season! These boys can play ball!Of course they had to celebrate the victory by dumping the cooler on Coach Bobby! To reward the freshman Bruins for their amazing season Coach Hall invited the boys to Blair Field where they all got announced on the Big Field before the Varsity game.

Then the boys got to hang out in the dugout and cheer on the Varsity boys to their victory!

Kelly may not have played as much as he would have liked, but he made a lot of great friends, had amazing coaches, and was lucky to be part of such a successful group!

San DIego County Cup

Shelby, Wyatt and I headed down to San Diego at the end of Spring Break for a polo tournament. We watched the Shore boys and my favorite girl Maggie tear it up in the pool for a few days.

Shelby had fun swimming in the hotel pool and hanging out with the other little sisters: The polos also had fun hanging out at the hotel and eating fine cusine like Five Guys Burgers and Fries: It was Coach Joe's last time coaching the 12&under boys so they gave him a fond farewell after the last game!

Spring Break

We spent Spring Break driving to La Puente to watch the Wilson Boys dominate the Catholic School competition in the Bishop Amat Tournament. Unfortunately for Kelly he spent the majority of the tournament watching. Of course the Bruin Boys won every game and won the tournament!
As usual, Shelby passed the time hitting a ball against a wall at a high school. A few times she even found a Dad or a friend to play with her!

Best Bruin Game So Far!

So basically the Wilson boys win every game they play, so there isn't too much excitement usually. But Friday's game vs. Millikan was a nailbitter! The game was tied 0-0 till the 7th inning when both schools scored a run. The score continued 1-1 thru the 12th inning when the umpire called the game. Jackson had an amazing defensive play and caught a bunt from 3rd base during a squeeze play that would have had Tristan Chamberlin scoring the winning run for Millikan. Kelly got to DH during the game, but obviously from the score there was not much offense for either team. It was so fun to watch a tight game!

Mark's service was an amazing day celebrating an even more amazing man. All the stories confirmed what we already knew - that Mark was one in a million. One of the Freddies wrote a comment on Mark's memorial site that was also shared at the service which I think captures Mark perfectly:

Mark, I didn’t know you for long, but my impressions are confirmed as I read the loving comments from your friends and family. So what can I add? Tasked to encapsulate your spirit in few words, here they are:Competence, intelligence, strength, grace – you led us by example-- without ever intending to lead us. So the question remains, that of all the people in the world, and with all you showed us, all you gave, all that you were,....why you? If we assume that there’s justice and fairness in this world, this becomes a vexing question. So here’s my take: You personified that which is the best in humankind. You showed us how one should live their life. The world certainly deserved to have you in it. But if what they say is true, and there’s a better place beyond this world, then you, especially you, have earned the right to leave early.Enjoy your new life, my friend – you’ve earned it. From the service I will always remember Grant's charge to think "What would Mark do?" I will always remember the amazing standing ovation the crowd gave Mark at Brett's request. I will always remember that even though Mark was not an overly religious person, he was one of the most Christlike men I knew. He loved and served everyone. He thought of others first. He treated everyone with kindness and respect. He had a thirst for knowledge and adventure. He was an amazing man!

Tragedy for Long Beach

Two of Kevin's close buddies were involved in a plane crash at the Long Beach airport this morning. Mike Jensen is the only person to have survived the crash. He is in critical conditional at Long Beach Memorial. Mark Bixby passed away along with five others on the plane. Both Mike and Mark are the nicest, kindest men you will ever meet. Both have loving wives and three children. Both are dedicated family men and devoted fathers. It is such a tragedy. Kevin just spent four days last week with these guys cycling from San Jose to Long Beach and having tons of fun. When I dropped Kevin off for the trip Mark came over and promised me to bring Kevin home safely. I wish I could do the same for Mark's wife Theresa. Mike left the cycling trip early to celebrate his daughter's 16th birthday on Saturday. He is that kind of Dad.

I really do not think there is a nicer person in this world then Mark Bixby. Kevin has known Mark since childhood. They grew up in the same neighborhood. They worked together at Pacific Retail. They have the same hobbies and ride together multiple times every week on their cycling team. They have kids the same ages and are always at the same functions. When we were seniors in high school Mark had just graduated from Duke University and unlike most 22 year old men, he was so supportive of his brother our age. He took pictures at every function we had at Wilson that year. He drove us to our senior prom. He rowed us around Naples in a gondola. He's been doing the same ever since - helping, supporting, and always taking pictures. Mark is also one of the best charitable volunteers Long Beach had. He was an amazing man!

I just can't believe this has happened - it is such a tragedy! Our prayers are with the Bixby and Jensen families.

The Pack is Back

The boys competed in their first tournament since coming back this weekend and made it to the championship game. Unfortunately calls weren't going their way. Coach Matt got kicked off the field and Wolfpack did not win the championship this time.

Disneyland with Layla

Juan, Rachel, and Layla had such a quick trip to California we hardly got to see them at all. Luckily Shelby and I met them at Disneyland after school on Friday for a quick visit to the Magic Kingdom! Lots of smiles at the happiest place on earth!

Guess who was crowned the King of Hearts at the annual cotillion waltz competition?Of course it was Wyatt who is not only a smooth dancer, but smart enough to pick the best girl dancer in the class as his partner. Monday night was also parent night so I got to share a waltz and a foxtrot with my favorite ballroom dancer. His dancing skills are much superior to mine and he leads quite well!

Love that the freshies chose Eric as one of their captains for 2011. The Wilson baseball team really focuses on developing not just great ball players, but great young men and I LOVE that! Hopefully some of it will rub off on my Bruin ball player!

Kelly's Wilson JV soccer team ended the season on Friday with a win over Lakewood. The JV boys were 7-3-2 in the Moore League for the season. Kelly scored a few goals along the way and made some new friends.

We celebrated with a family dinner complete with all of Grandpa's children

I guess everyone at school loves him too because they all made him Birthday posters! I brought him some burgers, fries, and brownies to share with his friends for his birthday lunch.

Sundance

Our holiday skiing featured a few days of great snow and a few days of not so great snow. The days we made it on the slopes were cut short by Shelby getting sick and so our intentions of Shelby learning how to ski this year did not really work out. But Sundance was beautiful as always and we enjoyed some fresh powder!

Just Dance!

The last hurrah in Provo on Sunday night featured lots of dancing in addition to a prime rib dinner! We got a lot of use out of the Just Dance game on the Wii. Peyton brought her new purple tutu to do some ballet while Wyatt played the piano for her dancing pleasures and Layla joined in on the fun.Finally Kat dazzled us with some amazing violin skillz! We sure will miss the fun and family in Provo. I wish we could have "Just Dance" Sunday dinners every week!
